Winterplace Ski Resort has announced a two-year multi-million-dollar capital investment plan. The investment, which combines a USDA energy efficiency improvement grant with the resort’s capital budget will be implemented in two phases: the first this season, and the second by summer 2025. Key projects include upgrades to the snowmaking system, slope lighting, HVAC improvements in the Resort Center, and the installation of new LED lights.
“The grant enables us to accelerate key upgrades across the resort, significantly reducing our energy consumption during peak winter months,” said Josh Faber, general manager at Winterplace. “Our focus is always on elevating the guest experience — by producing not just more snow, but consistently superior, high-quality snow that sets us apart. These improvements will ensure Winterplace remains a top destination for families to enjoy Winter outdoor fun now and for generations to come.”
As West Virginia’s most accessible ski resort, Winterplace is excited to offer families exciting improvements both on and off the slopes this season.
Following are some of the highlights:
Snowmaking Efficiency & Lighting Improvements
This season’s upgrades to the snowmaking system include replacing over a mile of snowmaking pipe and expanding capacity with the addition of 26 HKD snow guns. An additional 20 snow guns will be installed next summer. These improvements will increase energy efficiency, boost snowmaking capabilities, and ensure the highest quality of snow coverage throughout the season.
Additionally, the resort has added 50 new slope lights, with 200 more coming next summer, which will illuminate the entire mountain, enhancing the night-time skiing experience.
New Terrain Park, Return of Throwdown Thursdays & Mini Big Air Contests
Freestyle skiers and snowboarders can look forward to a brand-new Terrain Park opening this season. Fire Tower Park will be located on a new trail off Country Roads that leads into Almost Heaven Trail (weather permitting). Back by popular demand, Winterplace will also revive its weekly “Throwdown Thursdays” video contest, where freestyle enthusiasts can showcase their skill and enjoy camaraderie.
Additionally, the resort will host two Rail Jams and Mini Big Air contests throughout the season.
Convenient Online Ticketing, “Wild Wonderful” Frequent Skier Membership
Skiers can now save time and money by purchasing their tickets online with a new user-friendly website launching this season. Season passes remain at the same price point as last season, with early-bird pricing of $549 if purchased before Nov. 1.
The “Wild Wonderful Membership” is also back this season for $79, offering members a $25 discount on one ticket per day. making it a great option for frequent skiers or boarders looking to save some money. Friday Night Gates Continues, Beginner Racer and Women’s Clinic Added
This season marks the second year of the resort’s competitive Junior Development Ski Racing Team. Newcomers can benefit from the “Intro do Racing 101” clinic during the first two weeks, focusing on foundational racing skills taught by race coaches.
The kids’ development race team is open to children ages six to 12, while adults can compete in the Friday Night Gates league. Additionally, the resort is introducing a women’s ski clinic this season.

Mountain House Cafe Renovation & Apres-Ski Events All Season Long
The popular Mountain House Cafe has been remodeled this season with new flooring, counters, and kitchen equipment to enhance the dining experience for skiers looking to refuel on the slopes. Skiers will also find a full calendar of Apres-ski events all winter long including retro-themed snow parties, live entertainment, a Craft Beer Showcase, Tap Takeovers, and family festivals.
These events provide the perfect setting to relax and celebrate with family and friends after a day on the slopes.
Streamlined Ski Rental Process & New Rental Gear
Winterplace is streamlining the ski rental process, aiming to minimize wait times and maximize time on the slopes. This winter, the resort has invested $100K in new rental gear, adding 200 pairs of skis, as well as new ski and snowboard boots and bibs.
