Opening day food drive to benefit local food bank

12/12/2018 update: Due to operational issues, Omni has postponed their opening until next weekend, December 22nd

The Omni Homestead Resort is celebrating their 59th year of winter sports with a special offer: buy a lift ticket for Saturday, December 22nd and bring a non-perishable food item and receive a complimentary weekday lift ticket valid for the rest of the season. All donations will be given to the Ashwood United Methodist Church Food Bank which serves residents of the surrounding area.

“We have a strong partnership with our local food bank. Many of our associates volunteer each month, and through Omni’s Say Goodnight to Hunger program our guests have made significant contributions, but there’s still a need,” said Matt Fussell, director of recreation for the resort. “We’re asking people to bring a canned or other non-perishable food item when they come on Saturday that we can donate to the food bank. In return, we’ll give them a free lift ticket valid for any Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday throughout the season.”

In addition to skiing and snowboarding, the resort’s mini snowmobiles, for ages 6-12, and ice skating rink will also be open. The Penguin Slides tubing area will open at a later date. All winter activities are open to the public with packages and advance lift tickets available for purchase on the resort’s website or by calling 800-922-5000.

“We’re excited about the upcoming season. We started making snow late last week and then Mother Nature brought us another 18 inches on Sunday,” said Fussell.
