After a few mornings of snow, cold temps, and snowmaking, we’re seeing milder conditions across the region this morning. Temperatures this morning are generally in the upper 30’s and lower 40’s. As I alluded to yesterday, we didn’t see any snowmaking take place last night. However, with those decently cooler temperatures the snow should be nice and firmed up this morning.

It’s going to be another day with spring conditions. It maybe be a little bit cloudier in some spots, but temps are definitely going to be mild and the snow should soften up.  Yesterday looked to be pretty awesome based on what I saw on the cams. I was out and about yesterday in Banner Elk and it was an absolutely gorgeous day. It’s crazy how quickly the weather can change. Two days ago it was cold and snowy, and today it’s gonna be sunny with highs in the 50’s. All of the snow that fell is gone now and you wouldn’t have even known it was dumping at this time on Monday.

<<< This was the view from the office on Monday morning.  Awesomeness!  Unfortunately, not a lick of this is still around.

I really need to get out and ride. The past two mornings I’ve come in to work and have been dead set on getting a night session in. I think it’s all the coffee. Then, I crash by the afternoon and come 4 o’clock I’m just like…meh. I think I’m still recovering from Snowshoe.

I’m determined to go ride at App tonight so hopefully I’ll make it. It looks so good out there right now. They may have started off a little slow this year, but they are definitely going to be the last place in the state that will be open.

<<< App is looking might fine right now.  Not a bare or thin spot to be seen and they are 100% open!

Just a heads up, Beech is only open until 6pm for the rest of the season. I didn’t even realize this Monday when I was talking about going out there after work. They’re skiing and riding from 9am until 6pm on a daily basis now. However, their March Madness rates are in effect so you can ride for 9 hours for the low price of $30.

Now that we’re a week into March, unfortunately it is time to start looking at closings. We already have Ober, Wolf, and Sapphire Valley on the list of ski areas that are done for the year, and I think we’re going to have a few more after this weekend.

Wintergreen Resort in Virginia will hold their annual Slide and Splash Weekend event this Saturday and Sunday. This will be their final weekend for skiing and riding and they will have all kinds of festivities including a rail jam and pond skimming. It should be a good time up there and that 6" of snow they just received should make conditions for some pretty decent conditions as well. Read more about the event by CLICKING HERE.

That’s the only definitive closing that I can spot right now. However, there are a few others who I THINK will be closing up shop for the season. I’m going to email some people today and try and find out some more details. I really don’t wanna speculate on anything and then get some angry emails.

Get out and get it while you can. We’ve only got a few more weeks left!
