The weather is going to be changing.
After a warm weekend, we are going to see Ma Nature mix things up today – to the point some locations could see some light snow tonight.
It is hard to believe with how warm it was yesterday that we could temperatures cold enough snow 48 hours later, but welcome to the mountains in March.
Today is going to be a weather aware day no matter where you are playing as we could see thunderstorms move in this afternoon. There is a slight chance for severe storms with strong winds being the primary threat.
Until the line moves through, expect the milder temperatures (I wouldn’t be surprised to see a couple of readings in the upper 60s today) to persist with soft and variable conditions on the slopes.
After the line moves through, we will see temperatures fall and the favored northern locations – Wisp, Snowshoe and the Davis resorts – could see some light snow along with snowmaking temperatures overnight.
We are also watching a chance for snow on Wednesday.
Despite the warm temperatures, there is still plenty of snow to play on. I heard from our buddy Meimei who played at Massanutten on Friday (and also provided today’s featured image) and they said there was plenty of snow on the main trails.
That story is playing out all over the area for the most part. Mike did an awesome video tour yesterday (you can check it out here) and things are much the same this morning.
You can check out this morning’s Snow Report here, and here are a few notables as we kick off the week.
- Winterplace has temporarily suspended operations for snow conservation. They are planning on reopening on Saturday, March 12 and Sunday, March 13. Sunday is tentatively scheduled to be the last day of the season for Winterplace.
- Ober Gatlinburg and Omni Homestead wrapped up their 2021-22 seasons on Sunday.
- Snowshoe Mountain has suspended operations in the Coca-Cola Tubing Park for the time being.
- Several resorts have kicked off last season specials today, so be sure to check those out.
That does it for today, but until next time, #ThinkSnow!
