A number of the North Carolina High Country and West Virginia resorts are under a Wind Chill Advisory again today – mainly for this afternoon as another front moves into the area.  However, the temps are much better.  Where Beech was -13 degrees yesterday morning during the ski report update, they are at 17 this morning.  Snow should come in with the front this afternoon as well and while no accumulation is expected in North Carolina, Tennessee, or Virginia – Canaan, Snowshoe, Timberline, Winterplace, and Wisp have all been issued Winter Weather Advisories.

According to the alerts, Wisp, Canaan, and Timberline can expect 3-5” of snow, Winterplace 2-4”, and Snowshoe another 3-6” of snow.  Snowshoe and Winterplace are already seeing snow this morning.

Natural snow or not, the cold temperatures have allowed the slopes to make their own – thank you very much.  Appalachian Ski Mountain, Cataloochee, and Beech all added about 4” to their bases.  Wintergreen pilled it on as well and is up to 60”.  Outer Limits opens today at Wintergreen which brings them to 100%.  Ober is up to a 52-60” base and is also 100% open with the addition of the diamond Grizzly.

We have a couple events taking place this weekend to share with you.  Appalachian Ski Mountain is having their second Shred for the Cup Big Air event tomorrow (Sunday).  Cataloochee is hosting the first Crescent Ski Council Race Series today and tomorrow.  The USSA Slalom and Giant Slalom competitions are today and tomorrow at Sugar Mountain.  And finally, Snowshoe is having their Progression Session Jam today.

There are some pretty cool trip reports on the message boards if you haven’t seen them yet.

Stay tuned for more information on the Beech Summit and the Snowshoe Summit.  We’ll get that out to you next week probably.

Take care out there today!
