It is an unseasonably warm start to the day.
We are seeing temperatures in the 50s and 60s this morning nearly everywhere as the warmth from yesterday hangs around another day.
We are also seeing some scattered showers move through this morning, but those are going to clear out by midday much like yesterday. Once those showers do clear out, we may get a taste of summer skiing as temperatures could flirt with the upper 70s.
As has been the case the last few weeks, it is a roller coaster ride as the northern part of the area will see winter return with colder temperatures along with snowmaking on Friday and Saturday.
We could also see a few natural snowflakes fly as well.
The North Carolina resorts, however, could miss out on the snowmaking opportunity as they will be a tad too warm looking at the forecast now.
What a wild weather ride the last few weeks have been.
As I mentioned yesterday, we are seeing a few resorts take action to preserve the bases they currently have.
Wintergreen, Winterplace, and Wisp have all limited alternated or limited slopes for today, while Timberline noted that you may see fewer groomed trails.
For the full details, be sure to visit the Snow Reports page.
We also saw one resort announce that their 2022-23 season was coming to an end on Wednesday as Ober Mountain has shut down ski and snowboarding operations. Tubing will remain open.
Wolf Ridge remains a mystery on if they are planning to get back open or if they have wrapped their 2022-23 season. We will unable to reach anyone via phone yesterday or again this morning.
Of note – I heard a Wolf Ridge advertisement on a local TV station this morning.
Odd.
We will keep digging for updates and bring those to you as we get them.
I was scrolling on Facebook last night and came across this photo of a bear checking out the terrain from one of my friends from Sugar earlier this week.
Huge thanks to Edward Dean for allowing us to use it.
For those wondering, today’s featured image is from Beech Mountain.
That does it for today, but until next time, #ThinkSnow!
