Check the SNOW REPORT this morning for full details. Suffice to say that conditions will be awesome no matter where you decide to ski or ride on this Tuesday after Christmas. The weather forecast for today through Friday looks “Chamber of Commerce” like with mostly sunny skies and comfortable temperatures in which to enjoy the slopes. Highs for today look to be mostly in the 30s, with snowmaking lows again tonight.
The massive snowmaking opportunities at all of the resorts have made for more open terrain just in time for the heavier, skier/snowboarder traffic expected everywhere.
The Photo of the Day today is courtesy of Wintergreen Resort. Isn’t THAT a sweet shot?!?!
Speaking of snowmaking –
I noticed that Appalachian Ski Mountain reported that they made 12″ of manmade snow in just the last 24 hours and they are now reporting a MINIMUM base of SEVEN-AND-ONE-HALF-FEET of snow. Their reported is 92-124″.
I can also report that I am here at Timberline Mountain with 14 friends and family members and upon arrival, we walked up to the Winterset Trail which is about 150′ from our cabin. Last March when we were here, the conditions were amazing – with a BASE of about 17-18″. The base last night was WELL over four feet!
Speaking of friends and family – we have peeps riding today at Snowshoe Mountain, where they are boasting a region-leading, 34 trails open for today. We also have peeps skiing at Massanutten Resort where conditions are phenomenal with 17 slopes open today.
Our own, Kenny Griffin is on his way Mt Bachelor, in Bend, Oregon where they are playing on 67 trails today.
So we expect to see a lot of good photos and vids today.
We normally update once a day, but if you’ll remember to check back later, we should be posting some good content.
Notables for now!
Beech Mountain Resort – I noticed that they are up to 12 trails open with Upper & Lower White Lightning open!
Omni Homestead Resort –
I received some GREAT news out of Hot Spring, Virginia on Monday. Lynn Swann, the Director of Marketing and Communications at The Omni Homestead Resort got up with me to let me know that TODAY, Tuesday, December 27th, 2022, will be OPENING DAY for their 2022-2023 Snow Sports season.
She shared that skiing and snowboarding will be open their mid-station today and they HOPE to get open to the top
on Wednesday. Tubing should open on Wednesday as well. Their hours of operations are a bit different for Omni as they will be open to the public daily December 27th through January 2nd and then open Thursdays through Sundays for the remainder of the season. They WILL be open Monday, January 16th and February 20 for those long, Holiday weekends.
Lynn also mentioned that Omni Homestead Resort will be working this week to get the LIVE webcam back up for the season.
Bryce Resort – After about 48 hours straight of snowmaking they shared, “We have more snow than we could’ve imagined for this time of year! We have shut down the snow guns for the day so conditions will be clear and bright as mountain air with perfect snow. Revenuer’s and Locher Bowl are now OPEN for the first time this season which just leaves Hangover and our NEW terrain park area… We have decided to abandon Thunder Jug as the terrain park since it was not the best slope. The new terrain park will be located skiers left of the meadow.”
