This is a Thanksgiving weekend that we will be talking about for years to come. We had 12 open resorts from Maryland to Tennessee to entertain us, with conditions that rival those typically only seen mid-season.
Opening day at Wintergreen
For those of you who have been paying attention to the snow reports, you’ve seen that the resorts have been adding up to 2 inches of snow each of the past 5 nights! They are doing this plus opening new terrain – Bryce just opened up Revenuer’s Run. >>>
Cataloochee is having their 14th annual Can-U-Ski Food and Coat Drive today. Bring 24 cans of food or 2 coats in good condition to the Ghost Town parking lot and get a free lift ticket. This is typically a big day for Cat and given that the skiing and riding is so good right now, and you have the mixings for one of their better ones yet.
Cataloochee on a Beautiful Sunday Morning
Taking a look at what we can expect with the week ahead. Both Wintergreen and Winterplace will shut down for the week. Wintergreen will reopen on Saturday and Winterplace will open for Friday. Weatherwise, it looks like we will see a little warming this week with temps struggling to get down to freezing at night any time before Saturday. If you got out this weekend, it looks like you took advantage as we may see conditions deteriorate a bit. There’s a slight chance of rain coming up this week, with snow showing back up at the stretch of the long-term outlook from Sunday-Tuesday. The outlook for Banner Elk, NC, click for details. >>
Trip reports are being updated daily to the message boards, so do take a look at what other SkiSoutheasters are doing.
Enjoy the final day of the long weekend everyone and take care for those of you driving back home happy and tired.
