What does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8) In this one Bible verse, the purpose of The Timothy Project is contained. Seeking to follow God’s will in our lives, showing mercy to others as God has shown mercy to us through Jesus and looking to effect change in those places where injustice has taken hold—these are the things that give us our direction. The Timothy Project is an ecumenical missions coordinating organization that works primarily in the southeastern US. We serve church youth groups but also coordinate mission trips for college and intergenerational groups. Begun in 2007 as a support network for the Western NC Slavic Ministries, The Timothy Project has grown in terms of areas we serve and the types of service groups provide. In 2009, these committed youth and leaders served from rural Appalachia to the urban coast. Projects included construction and home repair, ministry with homeless and displaced persons, Vacation Bible Schools with underprivileged children and other places of need. In 2010, we will continue to serve in the mountains of western NC and the economically depressed area of North Charleston, SC. We have also added a week in the Bluefield area of VA/WVA that is traditionally known as “coal mining country”.
