Check the SNOW REPORT for all the deets again today as I am headed out for breakfast and some early turns here at Canaan Valley Resort.
I know the calendar is hinting that the end of the season is near for some of our ski resorts. Omni Homestead Resort closed this past week and Sapphire Valley Resort will close for snow sports after today’s sessions. I have to think that a couple of other ski areas will close within a couple of days.
However, there’s still some three weeks of skiing and snowboarding season left at least for some of the ski areas in the region. Keep checking the snow report and we’ll keep you up to date with those late announcements.
I can tell you PERSONALLY that my last two weekends have felt a whole lot more like a typical mid-season fun than what the calendar is suggesting. My Saturday here at beautiful and pristine Canaan Valley Resort was simply the best. The morning runs were sweet, with 6″ and more of powder runs down the mountain and all the runs later in the day were even sweeter as that crystal, powder loosened even more.
I don’t even know how many treks down I made yesterday as I skied several turns, took a 20 minute break; made 4-5 more; stopped for lunch and then made a bunch more. Needless to say, I was gassed at the end of the day.
I want to say a special thanks to General Manager, Steve Drumheller for his hospitality as we had dinner with him and Michaela later in the evening. I cannot recommend the Hickory Dining Room any higher. Their attention to detail and a phenomenal menu make for a great dining experience.
Afterward, we walked down and enjoyed their huge ice skating arena.
I’ve got a full day of skiing and covering some of the Sunday fun here at Canaan Valley Resort as they are wrapping up their Winter Carnival fun today – as well as the WV Governor’s Cup races, so I’m heading out and will report back when and if I can later.
I have to close today by mentioning that I am aware that the State of West Virginia is in the midst of awarding a new contract for management of Canaan Valley Resort and I know that the general practice is to invite and explore that with four or so management firms for the coming years. I cannot imagine how in the heck this place could ever be in any better management hands than those of Steve Drumheller and his way-more-than-capable hands.
Until Next Time…
In the case of Sugar –
