I’m going to start out today by reminding all of you guys about the 5th Annual Ski Southeast Summit next weekend at Snowshoe Mountain. Quite frankly, the response we’ve had so far hasn’t been nearly what we’ve seen in previous years. I’m a little perplexed. I know the weather hasn’t been perfect this winter, but come on! Conditions are great at the Shoe right now, with 57 trails and 222 acres of terrain open. They are actually going to see snow this weekend which will only add to those great conditions. It’s too far out to predict the weather for next weekend, but trust me there will be snow and plenty of it!
I talked to some peeps up there yesterday and we were able to iron out a few more details that I figured I’d fill you in on. In addition to the 25% off lodging for the weekend, you and all those who are staying with you will receive FREE lift tickets for Sunday. You’ll be able to pick those up at the Depot on Sunday morning. The Depot opens at 8am so you’ll just need to swing by there and give them your messageboard name before you hit the slopes.
On Saturday night, we’ll be having an après ski part at Moonshine from 6-8pm. They are going to be having some drink specials and what not so it should be a good time. You’ll be able to come and mingle, eat, and have some brews before heading out for the nighttime activities that Snowshoe will be hosting as a part of their Mountain Madness weekend.
Discounted lodging, free skiing, and cheap booze…what else do you need? Oh yeah, we’ll also be giving out some Ski Southeast Summit shirts to the first 100 or so people who sign up for the event. All in all, it’s going to be a fantastic weekend and you need to join us! Head over to the info page and read up on everything…https://www.skisoutheast.com/2012_SkiSoutheast_Snowshoe_Summit.htm, make your reservations by phone, and then add your name to the list on the messageboard…http://www.skinc.com/messageboard/showthread.php?t=14905. It’s going to be fun!
Alright, as to what’s going on with conditions. Yesterday ended up being pretty awesome. Timberline and Canaan up in West Virginia actually saw a trace of snow yesterday. Cloud cover in the morning cleared out pretty quickly and the afternoon was pretty gorgeous. That gorgeous weather is continuing this morning but unfortunately it looks like some underdeveloped snow is moving in later this afternoon. We might even see thunderstorms here in NC…already…in February. I have a bad feeling about severe weather this spring…
Tomorrow looks to be spring-like. There’s no other way to describe it. Sunshine, mild temps, and soft snow. The weekend sees colder temps return and even some snow is in the forecast for the more northern resorts. As I mentioned, Snowshoe is forecasted to see snow beginning Friday night and lasting through Saturday. There might be a few flurries here in NC Saturday morning, but it’ll be short lived. It will be quite cold though, so snowmaking will be able to get fired back up over the weekend for everyone it looks like. More roller coaster weather…sigh.
There are also a couple of really good sales going on right now that I figured I would mention. First off, Appalachian Ski Mountain is offering free skiing for the rest of the winter if you go ahead and buy your season pass for next year.
5 WEEKS OF FREE SKIING!
As of President’s Day Monday February 20, Appalachian Ski Mtn. is offering its best season membership deal ever – buy your 2012-13 season membership before March 25 and ride free for the last 5 weeks of the 2011-12 season. With excellent conditions, coverage and base depth over all slopes, look for great riding for the next several weeks to come.
That’s a great deal and App is always one of the last, if not the last, ski resort in the region to close up shop for the season. Their closing date is scheduled for March 25th, more than a month away, and they will more than likely make it to then, so taking advantage of this deal is a good idea.
Next up, Winterplace is offering a deal where you can buy one lift ticket and get one FREE!
We’re offering a sharing = savings deal where you get a buy one, get one free lift ticket coupon. Click the "BUY ONE GET ONE COUPON" tab on the left side of our wall to get yours today! The link will only be available this week, but you can use the coupon through March 8, 2012 Monday-Thursday. Get your coupon, and tell your friends too!
Head on over to their Facebook page and like them to take advantage of this awesome deal.
Finally, Beech is celebrating the greatest decade in the history of time this weekend. Their 80’s Weekend event will consist of live music, a costume contest, a late night DJ party, and a Retro Rideoff. For snowboarders, the most radical method air wins. For skiers, it’s the best daffy (cough jamsandwich cough). It should be a pretty great weekend out there, especially with colder weather returning.
I’m contemplating riding on Saturday and rockin my 80’s outfit. I think I would >>> win the costume contest. What do you guys think?
Wow, I’m all typed out now. That’s it for today. Talk to you guys tomorrow.
