It is going to be a great day to make some spring turns.
After looking like today could be a wash earlier in the week, the underdeveloped snow is going to arrive a little later than expected giving us a solid Friday for turns.
Tonight and tomorrow (at times) look wet, but cold air will make a return on Saturday night and into Sunday. That could bring some snow showers – accumulations won’t be anything drastic – but it would be great to see some flakes flying.
Snowshoe Mountain did tease this morning that their snowmaking team is ready to hit the ground running the minute the colder temperatures arrive – it would be great to hear the roar for a quick refresh.
Despite the mild stretch and Wednesday’s rain, we are still looking at pretty nice spring conditions. For the full rundown of conditions, be sure to visit the Snow Reports page.
Thursday did bring some updates from resorts.
After a valiant effort, Wintergreen Resort announced that the last chair of the 2023-24 season will load today at 5p to bring an end to their season.
Wintergreen will be open 9a-5p today.
Wintergreen’s sister resort Wisp Resort also announced that this will be the final weekend of the 2023-24 season.
Wisp will wrap up winter operations at 5p on Sunday, March 10.
Tennessee’s Ober Mountain also announced on Thursday that Spring Fling weekend is here and that it will be the last weekend of the season.
Ober will close for the season after Sunday’s session.
Canaan Valley also posted an operations update for this weekend as they will be open normal operating hours today through Sunday.
An update past Sunday hasn’t been announced.
As I mentioned yesterday, Bryce Resort has postponed Winterfest until next weekend (March 16-17). That will most likely be the closing weekend for the Virginia resort as well.
If you are headed to the mountains this weekend, don’t let those closing announcements scare you. There is still plenty of snow to play on.
That does it for today, but until next time, #ThinkSnow!
