It is a mixed bag out there this morning with part of the region seeing snow and snowmaking temperatures while the other part of the area is just gray and just above that magical snowmaking line.

Wisp was the big winner as they have received about an inch of fresh natural snow while Timberline and Canaan Valley received just over a half-inch.

Snowshoe and the Virginia resorts were also seeing flakes flying this morning – with the ‘Shoe reporting that it was starting to accumulate.

Our buddy Joe Stevens sent over this pictures as it is the first snowfall of the season at his house outside Scott Depot, WV.

This isn’t going to be a big event, but it is exciting to help set the winter mood.

As a cherry on top, resorts in Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland were able to make snow overnight and continue this morning.

Mike was able to capture a few shots off Resortcams last night as the mountain operation crews were doing their thing.

Now the southern part of the region is missing out.

We may see a few flurries here and there, but that will be about it for the North Carolina resorts along with Ober Gatlinburg.

Snowmaking overnight was hit or miss with Sugar and maybe Beech being the only ones to crank up snowmaking operations overnight.

However, conditions still look pretty sweet as we slide into Wednesday.

We hope to have updates on a few opening dates this week, but we do have a few scheduled for this upcoming weekend.
Wolf Ridge is tentatively planning to start spinning the lifts on Friday, Dec. 10, while Wintergreen Resort is hoping to drop the rope on Saturday, Dec. 11.

Bryce Resort should provide an update on if they will be open this weekend later today or tomorrow, while I fully expect an update from Massanutten in the same time frame.

Our own Brad Panovich shared his latest Skier’s Forecast overnight, and things still aren’t all doom and gloom.

Buckle up as it is going to be a wild ride.

That does it for today, but until next time, #ThinkSnow!
