Today’s featured image is from Timberline Mountain – what an incredible shot.
The roller coaster ride continues.
It has certainly been an up-and-down weather pattern, and that trend is going to continue into the weekend.
After cooler temperatures and some snow on Wednesday, we are going to have a milder pair of days before cold air (and maybe some snow) returns Saturday night.
The snow was light yesterday as Canaan Valley, Timberline, Snowshoe, and Wisp each saw around an inch by the time the snow finished mid-day yesterday.
However, several resorts were able to make snow overnight and the slopes certainly look refreshed this morning.
There are seven resorts open for play today.
App Ski Mountain – The Blowing Rock resort is riding on seven trails with five lifts in operation today. They are playing on a 16-40″ base with groomed conditions.
Beech Mountain – Beech is riding with a 22-34″ base with a groomed surface on top. They are playing on nine slopes with four lifts spinning.
Cataloochee – The Maggie Valley resort is reporting a groomed surface atop a 22-26″ base. They have seven trails serviced by four lifts today.
Snowshoe Mountain – The ‘Shoe is reporting a 30″ base with groomed conditions. They are playing on 56 acres of terrain with 17 trails and four lifts open for Thursday.
Sugar Mountain – Sugar has 10 slopes available for play today with four lifts in operation. They are reporting a manmade and frozen granular surface with a 24-65″ base.
Timberline Mountain – Timberline has an 18-24″ base with a groomed surface. The Davis resort has two lifts servicing 11 slopes today.
Wisp Resort – Wisp is playing on four slopes with five lifts in operation. They have a 16″ base with a groomed and variable surface.

The biggest takeaway is there is plenty of snow to play on – with more terrain coming online as we head into the weekend.
We did receive an update late last night that Wolf Ridge has pushed their opening date back. Initially, they had hoped to drop the rope on the season tomorrow Friday, Dec. 10, but they are now targeting Thursday, Dec. 16.
Wintergreen is still targeting to open the season on Saturday, Dec. 11, and we will update if that were to change.
