There is snow in them hills! Our biggest storm of the season has hit in a big way. Just about all of our member resorts are under Powder Alerts this morning. If you can get up to the slopes – do!
There is so much going on this morning that it is almost hard to know where to start. How about we take a look at the snowfalls.

This storm takes Canaan Valley, Timberline, and Snowshoe’s snow totals for the season to above 100”! Snow is still falling pretty heavily at the West Virginia, Virginia, and the North Carolina High Country resorts.
Lots of snow at The Homestead. The flume is from the snowblower as the crew clears the deck.
Lots of snow at Sugar. Again, the flume is from the snowblower.
Looking at Shavers Lake at Snowshoe.
This is the big one and happening just before the Valentine and President’s Day Weekend is just HUGE. Once more, the resorts are making it incredible easy for you to get out and enjoy all of the fresh powder this weekend.
Canaan Valley is running a Ski and Stay Package that is valid Feb. 14-17 and includes lodging in a standard queen or king room, breakfast every morning, and 2 or 3 day lift tickets plus full Beech Club privileges to loosen up the muscles in the hot tubs and sauna. The 2 day package is $279/pp and the 3 day package is $389/pp.
Winterplace is running a ski 2 days get President’s Day free promotion. You get free skiing on Monday if you purchase a 3-day rental ($85 for adults) and a 2-day lift ticket ($82 for adults) for Saturday and Sunday.
Please – go ahead and twist my arm. Like we needed any more reason to hit the slopes this weekend!
I just got word from Cataloochee that they are opening The Meadows for the day today. This is a rare treat indeed and I’m jealous of everyone who is able to make it up there. I’ve only skied The Meadows a couple times in the many years that I’ve been skiing the Cat.
A rare treat – the Meadows are open at Cataloochee today!
I cannot overstate the snow and powder that has, and continues to, fall on the slopes today. THIS IS THE BIG ONE FOLKS – GET OUT IF YOU CAN!
I’ve teased you guys in the past that Snowshoe is going to be offering up their Ridiculous Pass again this year, but with a twist. I didn’t want to steal their thunder and leak out the details, but Snowshoe has finally made the announcement themselves, so here we go.
Starting on February 19th, the season pass goes on sale for $199. Every day after February 19th, the season pass price climbs $5.
For an additional $149 each you can add on a Snowshoe Bike Park Pass, a 3-Day Summer Pass, and a Raven Golf Club 6-Pack. The Ridiculous Pass was a huge hit last year and no doubt will be a big hit again this year. And remember, the SkiSoutheast Snowshoe Summit if Feb. 28 – Mar. 2nd and we’ll have a special to throw out at you.
Finally before I let you go – seriously, you’re still reading this? I said to GO OUTSIDE! However I know that some of you just can’t so I have a bit of juicy gossip to share with those of you that are still with me. I bet you already figured out that this is about Wolf Ridge. It seems that Wolf Ridge has headlined the gossip columns pretty steadily over the past couple of seasons. Well, this time it appears that the purchase by the new owners (who we reported last year had bought the mountain, but then we had to retract that, and then we were able to confirm just before this season that a purchase agreement had indeed been entered into) is in jeapordy, or maybe fallen through completely. Apparently there was some kind of missunderstanding as to what exactly the new owners where purchasing. This disagreement came to a head last week and Orville, the prior owner, took back control of the mountain. WOW – this could definitely be a running theme in As the World Turns (is that still on?).
Well, there you have it. You’re caught up with all we know right now.
Take Care!
