Ober Mountain
Ober Mountain Adventure Park and Ski Area is Tennessee’s only ski area and a favorite year-round, family friendly destination. At Ober, shopping, dining, and attractions are just an Aerial Tram ride away. The Gatlinburg Aerial Tramway transports guests 2.1 miles, over the treetops with unparalleled views of the Smokies, to the lodge on Mount Harrison where guests are greeted with family friendly activities no matter the season. Attractions include the Mountain Coaster, Alpine Slide, Scenic Chairlift, Downhill Mountain Biking, indoor Ice Arena, Ice Bumper Cars, Scenic Chairlift, Wildlife Encounter, summertime tubing and more. In wintertime the park transforms into a ski area offering 10 slopes for all abilities, a family snow zone, and a snow tubing hill.
What’s New
Ober Mountain has had a busy Spring getting ready for the 2023-24 winter season. In addition to expanding to Whitewater Rafting, Ziplining, and Downhill Mountain Biking (opening Summer 2023), Ober has also announced a $4 million investment in new snow making equipment to help deliver one of the best skiing experiences east of the Mississippi River!
The $4 million investment will bring in new cutting-edge SMI Super Polecat Fully Automated Snowmaking Tower machines manufactured by the company Snow Makers, to help build out the slopes much more efficiently and effectively to produce nearly 95% coverage of the slopes with three to five feet of foundational snow. These machines have been used extensively around the world and are known as the industry standard and workhorse, producing high quality and varying grain size snow particles that are great to slide on. These same machines have been successfully used during four previous Olympic Games providing world class snow.
What They Say About Themselves
Ober Mountain’s Mountaintop location on Mt. Harrison can either be reached by driving Ski Mountain Road or taking a ride on the Aerial Tramway. The Aerial Tramway is one of America’s largest cable cars. It departs every twenty minutes from downtown Gatlinburg and offers a magnificent panoramic view of Gatlinburg and The Great Smoky Mountains.
For those unaware, Gatlinburg is the main entrance to the popular Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The resort town offers shops, restaurants, yearly festivals, and fun for the whole family!
In the spirit of a real mountain community, Gatlinburg is outstanding in its approach to genuine hospitality with sensible pricing, and comfortable accommodations. You can stay close to the slopes in one of several cozy chalets, or a luxury hotel in downtown Gatlinburg. With all amenities centrally located, Ober Mountain is the perfect place to meet up with friends and family during your winter vacation!
Ober Mountain has ten ski trails serviced by two quads and one double chairlift, plus one surface lift and a Terrain Park. Snowmaking equipment blankets 100 percent of the slopes. Slopes are maintained with the latest in snow-grooming equipment to provide a smoother, more consistent surface, creating enjoyable skiing and snowboarding conditions.
Ober Mountain offers a Ski School, Rentals, a Retail Ski Shop, lounge, Snack Bars, and more! Ober even offers an exciting Snow Tubing Park serviced by The Magic Carpet that offers 300 feet of exhilaration over a 50-foot vertical drop! For younger children unable to Snow Tube or Ski, Ober also has the Snow Zone – an area of snow just for them to play in!
Après Ski?
Ober Mountain has plenty of options for Après Ski with their choices of shopping, dining, and year- round attractions. While many come to Ober Mountain for winter sports, there is plenty to do at this four-season attraction.
