This is pretty incredible!  Wisp Resort in Maryland and all of the West Virginia resorts have received another dollop of natural snow from Mother Nature.  Both Wisp and Snowshoe are reporting receiving 8” of snow in the past 24 hours, while Canaan, Timberline, and Winterplace are all reporting 7” of natural snow.  These resorts have received a pretty amazing amount of snow in the past couple of weeks.

Since January 18th alone, Canaan has received 28.1” of light powdery snow.  Snowshoe has received that same amount just in the past 7 days!  And with crisp blue skies today, you are looking at an amazing day on the mountain.  It will be a little breezy and it currently feels like -18 degrees at Snowshoe, but beggars cannot be choosers.  Oh and by the way, Wisp and the West Virginia resorts are looking for more snow straight through ‘til Tuesday.

ANOTHER Bluebird at Snowshoe

Down here in the North Carolina High Country, both Beech and Sugar are each reporting 3” of natural snow in the past 24 hours as well.  We don’t have the wind but we still have the blue skies!  The temperature at Beech is expected to make it up to the lower 40’s.  It is going to be a marvelous day to be out on the slopes.  You should stop reading now, grab your go-bag, and run for the door!

I was raised with the saying, American by birth – Southern by the grace of God.  This could not be truer than right now, as we are smack-dab in the middle of peak skiing conditions.  I hope you are able to get out and enjoy.  However, if you are like me and stuck at the house today, you can put on your gear in front of the computer and gander at the resorts cams.  It’s the next best thing, right?!

On to the happenings around the resorts…

Wintergreen is hosting their 10th annual Warrior Weekend yesterday and today.

Wounded Warrior at Wintergreen Ski Resort

This weekend, more than 30 wounded warriors will ride the mountain with Wintergreen Adaptive Sports.  While I proudly served in the Navy, you don’t have to be a veteran to appreciate the sacrifices these men and women have given for our nation – Bravo Zulu!

Ober will host the 2014 Special Olympic Tennessee State Winter Games on MondayTennessee Winter Special Olympics Games at Ober & Tuesday.  As some of you may remember, I was up at the North Carolina Special Olympic Winter Games at Appalachian earlier in the month.  Volunteering for these games is an extremely rewarding experience and I’m sure Ober could use all the help they can get.  If you’re going to be around, there are few better things you could do with your time!

We are looking at an incredible week ahead for getting outdoors and letting gravity pull you down the hill whilst having your stick(s) of choice attached to your feet.  I could be easily tempted to play hooky myself this week and sneak in another day on the slopes.  Anyone with me?

Take Care!
