The triumphant return of winter is underway as colder air and snow moves back into ski country across the southeast. The cold air is flooding in and northwest snow showers will pick up in intensity right through the day Friday. Another upper level disturbance will help keep those snow showers going right into the weekend. Amount as always will vary on elevations but a solid 1-3” across the mountains with 2-4” at the North Carolina ski resorts and 4-6” up in the Virginias. The added bonus of very cold air will allow the snow makers to get back to their work and crank up those bases. It appears snowmaking will be able to go 24 hours a day right through Friday and Saturday with a break during the afternoon Sunday. If you get out to do some skiing this weekend dress warm and enjoy some fresh natural snow and lots of the manmade stuff.
