Christmas week has arrived.

After a beautiful weekend that saw a fresh coating of light snow in some locales, we are looking at fantastic conditions across the area.

Some light snow – just under half an inch – fell at a few resorts to help set the Christmas mood as we kick off the holiday period.

What a view from Beech Mountain this morning!

The weather is certainly a mixed bag over the next couple of days as we continue the cold trend for the most part.

The West Virginia resorts could be tonight’s big winners as up to 4-8″ of fresh snow could fall by tomorrow. How sweet is that?

The North Carolina resorts could see a mix of snow and underdeveloped snow with a light accumulation.

However, there will be plenty of snowmaking opportunities this week so the slopes will be in great shape.

Also, we have our eye on the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day storm that could bring snow to most of the region.

Overall, this is a great set-up if you are going to be able to hit the slopes over the coming weeks.

Here is a quick look at where we stand entering the week:

North Carolina
App Ski Mountain – Playing on nine slopes with five lifts in operation. They are reporting a 30-50″ base with a groomed surface. Remember, online reservations are required this season.

It is a bluebird morning at Beech Mountain today.

Beech Mountain Resort – They are riding on a 28-46″ base with a groomed surface. They received a fresh dusting of snow overnight, and Beech is offering 11 slopes with six trails today.

Mike and Kenny will be out at Beech today so be sure to be on the lookout for them. Kenny sent over a few pictures early this morning – including today’s photo of the day.

Cataloochee Ski Area – The Maggie Valley resort is offering 11 slopes with five lifts in operation. They are reporting a 30-44″ base with a packed powder surface.

Ski Sapphire – Ski Sapphire is playing on both slopes with a 32″ base.

Sugar Mountain – Sugar received a light dusting as well and is playing on a manmade powder and frozen granular surface with a 31-66″ base. They are riding on 12 trails serviced by four lifts.

Wolf Ridge – Wolf Ridge is playing on a 16-34″ base with a groomed surface. They have four slopes open and three lifts in operation. Tubing is also open.

West Virginia

Wintergreen Resort- Wintergreen is playing on eight slopes that are serviced by three lifts today. They have a groomed surface with a 24″ base.

Tennessee
Ober Gatlinburg – Ober is playing from 10a-8p today with five slopes serviced by three lifts. They are reporting a 20-30″ base with a groomed surface. Tubing at the Gatlinburg resort is the hottest ticket in town as they are sold out through Jan. 3.

Maryland
Wisp Resort – Wisp is featuring 14 trails with six lifts turning today. They have an 18″ base with a groomed surface.

You can view all the details over at the Snow Reports page.

One important/quick tip as we head into the busiest time of the year.

Be sure to check with the mountain where you are headed to play to see if you can buy your tickets in advance as well as check their availability. There would be nothing worse than to drive to the resort just to find out that you need another option.

We will certainly try to provide updates and dates we know are sold out, however, that information is changing rapidly throughout the day.

If you hit the slopes today or this week, be sure to send us photos and videos – we love featuring reader content.

That does it for today. Until tomorrow, #ThinkSnow!
