Christmas week is starting off beautifully.

Prime snowmaking conditions, cold temperatures, and even some natural snow in some spots are kicking off the week in fantastic fashion.

The conditions this morning are looking pretty sweet.

Every resort has been able to crank up snowmaking operations – a majority of them have been making snow around the clock the last couple of days, and that has really flipped the script from the middle of last week.

As a cherry on top, some of the northern resorts picked up additional snow Sunday and overnight.

Some of those totals include:

Wisp Resort – 4″ to bring their two-day total to 6″
Canaan Valley and Timberline – 2.9″ to bring both of their two-day totals to around 4″
Snowshoe Mountain – 2″ to bring their two-day total to 3″.

We saw a couple of other locations receive a trace – much like yesterday.

The bigger story this morning, however, has been the snowmaking and the difference just a couple of days have made.

Here is a quick glance at where we stand and also some updates on potential reopening dates.

North Carolina
App Ski Mountain – App is riding on a 56-82″ base with groomed conditions. They are playing on seven slopes and five lifts today.

Beech Mountain – Beech is rolling with 10 trails that are serviced by three lifts. They are reporting a 20-46″ base with a groomed surface on top.

Cataloochee – Cat is skiing on a groomed surface with a 20-46″ base. They are offering 10 trails and five lifts for Monday.

Ski Sapphire Valley – Sapphire Valley has been able to crank up snowmaking operations, and they are shooting for Tuesday or Wednesday as the opening day.

Sugar Mountain – The Banner Elk resort has five lifts turning with nine trails for play. They are riding on manmade and frozen granular with a 22-60″ base.

Wolf Ridge – The Wolf is reopening today with an 8-20″ base. Their lineup for today hasn’t been officially decided, but they will have a couple of trails open. We will update the Snow Reports page as soon as we get the official word.

West Virginia
Canaan Valley – The Davis resort has had a successful opening weekend as 4″ of natural snow helped set the winter ambiance. The resort is reporting variable conditions with a 24-36″ base and four trails serviced by one lift.

Snowshoe Mountain – The guys at 4848′ are rolling right now as they now have 91 acres open with 25 trails and nine lifts open with more terrain opening in the next couple of days including Widowmaker. The ‘Shoe is reporting a 45″ base with a groomed surface.

Timberline Mountain – Timberline is playing on nine trails with two lifts spinning. They are playing on a 12-60″ base with a groomed surface.

One note – they announced that they will offer night skiing over the holiday period on select terrain.

Winterplace Resort – Winterplace had a great “official” opening weekend with 16 trails and five lifts in operation. They are playing on a groomed granular surface with a 24-54″ base.

Virginia
Bryce Resort – Bryce is reporting four trails and three lifts open for play, but don’t be surprised if they quickly add to the open terrain this week.

Massanutten Resort – The ‘Nut is resuming operations today with four trails and three lifts in service. They are reporting a groomed surface with a 15″ base.

Omni Homestead – While we haven’t heard an update this morning, I expect we will hear an opening date in the next couple of days.

Wintergreen – Wintergreen has been laying down the snow and has announced it will kick off the 2022-23 campaign on Tuesday, Dec. 20.

Tennessee
Ober Gatlinburg – Ober hasn’t officially set an opening date, but it will be this week. I wouldn’t be surprised if they crank things back up tomorrow (or even today).

It was great to see them host members of the Tennessee football team on Sunday afternoon. Check out some of the pictures below in social shares.

Maryland
Wisp Resort – Wisp was the big winner in the natural snow category this weekend. They have upped their base total to 20″ with a machine and packed granular surface They are playing on eight trails and four lifts.

The biggest takeaway from my tour this morning conditions are looking incredible. If you are out on the slopes today, we would love to see your photos and videos.

One thing I haven’t mentioned is the weather for the week. All eyes are on the Thursday and Friday system, and we will bring you updates as we get closer as things could change over the next couple of days.
