The fogs of August are certainly delivering.

With a foggy start to our Tuesday, we have 12 beans in the jar so far this month.

We will take that start.

For those who might be new to the Ski Southeast family, the old weather lore is every foggy morning in August equals a snow this winter, and the mountain lore is to put beans in a jar to keep count.

You can read more about the tradition here.

The featured image this morning is from the top of Beech Mountain as you can look down at all the valley fog after last night’s storm rocked the High Country with a lot of thunder, lightning, rain, and wind.

It is a much calmer morning so far.

So far, the weather lore seems to be on our side for snow this upcoming winter.

There are some other wise tales – like if the first week in August is unusually warm, the winter will be white and long – that can certainly apply so far, and we will bring you updates on those as well throughout the month.

That does it for today, but keep checking back as we keep counting fogs and getting things cranked back up.
