Ma Nature is throwing us another mixed bag for the last day of January.
Mixed precipitation – including some light snow – is falling in the northern half of the area, while we are seeing just plain old rain for the southern resorts.
Snow accumulations for the northern half will be on the lighter side but will help set that winter ambiance.
As a note, we could see some lift operations impacted wherever freezing rain falls.

Here is a quick look at some of the numbers from around the area.
North Carolina
App Ski Mountain – App remains 100% open with 13 trails and six lifts for play. They are playing on a groomed surface atop a 96-120″ base.
Beech Mountain – Beech is riding on a 36-66″ base with a groomed surface. They are playing on 15 trails with four lifts spinning.
Cataloochee Ski Area – With the opening of Short N Sweet, Richard’s Run, and Upper Snowbird, Cat is playing on 17-of-18 trails with all five lifts turning. They are reporting a groomed surface with a 55-63″ base.

Sapphire Valley – Ski Sapphire is closed until Friday at noon (weather permitting).
Sugar Mountain – Sugar is playing on a loose and frozen granular surface with a 35-80″ base. They are offering 17 slopes (including Whoopdedoo) and five lifts for use today.
Wolf Ridge – The Wolf is reporting five trails and two lifts for play with a 32-48″ base with groomed conditions on top. With the forecast, I would call ahead to be sure there are no changes to Wolf Ridge’s operating schedule.
West Virginia
Canaan Valley Resort – With a slew of terrain openings over the weekend, Canaan Valley is playing on 19 trails serviced by three lifts. They are reporting variable conditions with a 24-36″ base.
Snowshoe Mountain – The ‘Shoe is rolling with 240 acres open for fun. They are reporting a 55″ base with groomed conditions, and they have 57 trails and 11 lifts in operation today.
Timberline Mountain – Timberline is also at 100% with 20 trails and four lifts spinning today. They are skiing on a manmade and groomed surface with a 12-68″ base.
Winterplace Resort – Winterplace is holding steady with 25 open slopes and five lifts for play. They are reporting a groomed surface with a 40-56″ base.
Virginia
Bryce Resort – Bryce remains open at 100% with nine trails and four lifts turning.
Massanutten Resort – The ‘Nut is open for day sessions only Tuesday through Thursday, and they will be playing on 16 trails that are serviced by six lifts today. With a groomed surface atop, they are reporting a 36″ base.
Omni Homestead – As regularly scheduled, Omni Homestead will resume operations on Thursday.
Wintergreen Resort – Wintergreen is reporting a 34-36″ base with groomed and frozen granular. They are offering 14 trails and four lifts for use today.
Tennessee
Ober Mountain – Tennessee’s only ski area is holding steady with three lifts servicing six trails. They are reporting a groomed surface with a 20-30″ base.
Maryland
Wisp Resort – With five lifts spinning, Wisp is playing on 16 trails for Tuesday with a 22″ base and a groomed and frozen granular surface. Central Park is closed today for a rebuild.
Conditions remain pretty fantastic for those making turns today.
The next couple of days won’t be true carbon copies of today, but they are going to be pretty close. Brad will be sharing his latest skiers forecast so be on the lookout for that.
