Hey you young guys that are always emailing me about a desire to go to school ON THE SLOPES check this out! Richard Rominger, who used to be around the High Country, is now at Schweitzer Mountain in Idaho. He emailed me yesterday about this Accredited Terrain Park Management School that may be of interest to some.
College accredited Terrain Park Management School at Schweitzer Mountain
This is the first ever college-accredited program and it begins Spring 2006
Sandpoint, ID (date) – Schweitzer Mountain Resort will offer what is believed to be the first ever college accredited Terrain Park Management Class through the North Idaho College Resort Management program.
Instructors Richard Rominger, Schweitzer’s Freestyle Terrain Manager and Dan Nylund, Schweitzer’s Freestyle Construction and Grooming Lead will teach students the proper techniques for building and maintaining terrain park features including documentation and decision-making processes critical to terrain park management. Students will understand how to design, build, and maintain a terrain park complete with a variety of jump and jib features keeping in mind flow, visibility, and accessibility.
“We wanted to start a freestyle terrain operations program specifically for those who want to work in terrain parks but have not yet obtained the work experience to set them apart from others when applying for jobs in this field,” explained Rominger, “So many young people want to be involved in the freestyle terrain industry and we hope to supply the industry with ready-to-work terrain park personnel.”
The features the students build will be showcased in their very own separate terrain park; essentially a field lab for the students.
The class will be offered annually in the spring semester for full-time registered students of North Idaho College located in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Classes will take place in Sandpoint, Idaho and at Schweitzer Mountain Resort and will consist of classroom lecture and discussion as well as on-mountain workshops. Guest speakers will round out the subject on matters covering event production, liability and feature building.
