Burton Names Appalachian Ski Mountain as an Official Burton Learn To Ride Center!

Burton Snowboards, the world’s leading snowboard manufacturer has selected Appalachian Ski Mtn. as the only ski resort in North Carolina and the first ski resort south of Snowshoe, WV to be named as an official Burton Learn To Ride Center.

“Appalachian Ski Mtn. will offer new riders the type of top-quality experience and excellence in instruction that Burton looks for in its Learn To Ride Centers” said Jeff Boliba, Burton Snowboards’ Global Resort Director.

Burton’s innovative Learn To Ride Program is specifically designed to accelerate learning by utilizing beginner specific equipment. The goal of the Learn To Ride (LTR) program is to give beginner snowboarders the best initial snowboarding experience possible so they return to the mountain and continue to snowboard. By using proven instruction methods and equipment created specifically for beginners, LTR helps riders enjoy their first day on a snowboard.

Appalachian Ski Mtn.’s Alpine Ski Shop is an authorized Burton dealer and carries men, women, and children’s snowboard equipment, clothing, helmets, and accessories.

After adding to their snowmaking arsenal prior to the 2007 season, Appalachian was able to create a blizzard across the entire mountain every time they cranked up all of the snowmaking mechanisms! Improvements in their snowmaking plant allowed App to make snow and remain open with some of the best conditions of any year on record.

North Carolina's Longest Season Ever!

That said, Appalachian has announced that they will remain open for the 2009-2010 ski and snowboarding season until April 11, 2010!

“We recognize that Easter is an important family holiday and want to accommodate vacationing families throughout the Southeast region, offered General Manager, Brad Moretz. “We believe this will be the longest scheduled ski and snowboard season in the 48 year history of North Carolina skiing. “

Appalachian's Snowmaking Continues to Improve!

On the heels of two record-breaking seasons, Appalachian Ski Mtn. has continued to improve its region-leading snowmaking capability for the upcoming 2009-10 winter season.

New fully automated snowmaking towers have been added on Orchard Run and Big Appal with the intent to open Orchard Run on or close to the first day of the season. Snowmaking has also been added on the new AppalTop slope, the home for Appalachian’s new Burton Progression Park.

Last season, seven of ten slopes and both terrain parks were open by Appalachian’s third day of operation.

Appalachian Ski Mtn. doubled its snowmaking pumping capacity for the 2007-08 season, and now has the largest pumping capacity per acre of any ski resort in the Southeast region.
